Why do we need to be tested with HIV?

As reported by the Department of Health or DOH 7 last month, the state of HIV Cases in the Philippines most especially Central Visayas is alarming. Based on DOH 7 records, there were 8,104 people living with HIV in the region in 2018, and there is a seven percent increase in the first five months of 2019. If this trend continues, by 2022, there will be an estimated 10,279 people living with HIV in the region. (sunstar.com.ph) How can this be stopped? One thing can block the rise by knowing your HIV status. You can help by joining us on June 15, the National HIV testing day!

DEFINITION OF IMPORTANT TERMS

What is HIV?
According to HIV.gov, HIV stands for human immunodeficiency virus. It is the virus that can lead to acquired immunodeficiency syndrome, or AIDS, if not treated. Unlike some other viruses, the human body can’t get rid of HIV completely, even with treatment. So once you get HIV, you have it for life.

What Is AIDS?
AIDS is the most severe phase of HIV infection. People with AIDS have such badly damaged immune systems that they get an increasing number of severe illnesses, called opportunistic infections.

WHY DO WE NEED TO BE TESTED WITH HIV?

1.  We can stop the increase in HIV cases.

If we are tested positive in HIV, that means we can eliminate or lessen the risk of transferring the virus to another person with sexual acts. And this means we will be more careful and be a responsible individual starting on.

2. We don't know what to do if we are tested positive.

Actually, this is what I was thinking when I was drafting this article. I haven't had an HIV testing before but I encourage my inner me to do it this weekend. I heard if tested positive, there's a free drug and treatment from our government. Here in Central Visayas, there are 13 treatment Centers that offer free meds and consultancy. And if in doubt, we can always call DOH or any City Medical Center for inquiries or call Love Yourself White House at 0927 873 7575 for details.

3. If we are tested positive, what will people say?

Personally, I'm in the stage of my life that I really don't fucking care! My apology for the word but seriously, it's our health and not theirs. And the best thing when you get tested this Saturday is that results are between you and the health worker. It will be kept secret and confidential. In addition, all volunteers or health workers are obliged never to disclose this information.

4. I've been a blood donor ever since so I guess I don't need to be tested with HIV.

WRONG! When you donate blood, it is more on donating blood and not for HIV testing purposes. Did you know that health worker needs your consent or permission prior to testing your blood for HIV? That means, during your bloodletting time, your blood was not tested with HIV at all. So, it's not safe to say you are confident. It's best to be tested.

5. I am not active in SEX but when I do, I always use a condom. So I am safe?

Safe yes but sometimes we tend to forget. Adding HIV testing as part of your sexual health routine is recommended.

What Are The BEE-nefits Of HONEY for our Health?

Everybody loves Honey, right? Naah, not the "honey" that you are thinking right now - I mean the real-deal Honey! It has rich sweets that our tastebud wants! And for a sugar-clingy person like me, Honey is the best alternative for refined sugars if consumed moderately. We are just so blessed to have an authentic Honey-inspired Cafe and Shop here in Cebu. Thanks to Mr. Jun Pales and Mr. Dean Ang for founding the Purple Bee Shop & Cafe where we can savor and enjoy raw and healthy Honey every day!

This part of the cafe is also my part, they have different kinds of pasalubongs for tourists too!

You can also hold a meeting here in Purple Bee Cafe and Shop! So quiet in here.

Honey has health benefits to our Body. Try replacing sugar with Honey and you would see the difference internally and externally! It started in ancient times that people use Honey for food and for medical purposes. In this era, Honey is also a huge part of some beauty products, especially on Skin and Face. But have you wondered what are the benefits of Honey for our Health? Here is a summary!

1. Honey has nutrients.

According to National Institute of Health, some of the vitamins found in honey include ascorbic acid, pantothenic acid, niacin, and riboflavin; along with minerals such as calcium, copper, iron, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, potassium and zinc. Now, do you need those expensive daily vitamins?

2. Honey is rich in antioxidants.

Just to be clear, we mean raw honey is rich in antioxidants. What are these antioxidants? Antioxidants help to protect your body from cell damage due to free radicals. Honey has as many antioxidants as some fruits and vegetables.

3.  Honey can help lower blood pressure

Because Honey has a lot of antioxidants, therefore it can help lower blood pressure.

4. Honey is a good substitute for Sugar.

You can ask to add honey instead of sugar.
You can actually ask any expert, they would surely choose Honey than any refined sugar out there. Why?  According to medical news today, sugar is higher on the glycemic index (GI) than honey, meaning it raises blood sugar levels more quickly. This is due to its higher fructose content, and the absence of trace minerals. But honey has slightly more calories than sugar, although it is sweeter, so less may be required.

So basically, it is still dangerous to consume a lot of content of Honey daily but when consumed moderately, it can help a lot in our health factors.

5. Honey has Antibacterial and antifungal properties

As reported by National Insitute Of  Health, Honey has been widely accepted as food and medicine by all generations, traditions, and civilizations, both ancient and modern. For at least 2700 years, honey has been used by humans to treat a variety of ailments through topical application, but only recently have the antiseptic and antimicrobial properties of honey been discovered. Honey has been reported to be effective in a number of human pathologies. Clinical studies have demonstrated that the application of honey to severely infected cutaneous wounds rapidly clears infection from the wound and improves tissue healing.

6. Honey helps in digestive issues.

Famously, Honey is one of the best home remedies in terms of some kinds of digestive problems such as Constipation, Lost bowel movement (LBM) and ulcers. If you happen to have an issue on pooping, try put honey to your tea. It will surely work. Thanks me later!
